Van Conversion VLOG - Building the Bed, Kitchen & Storage in Mel's Hiace Campervan

In this episode of our Toyota HiAce campervan build, we tackle one of the biggest milestones of the entire conversion—building the kitchen, bed and custom cabinetry.

With the structural work complete, it's finally time to turn the van into a space that's comfortable to live in. Every cupboard, storage compartment and piece of furniture is built from scratch to maximise the limited space inside a standard Toyota HiAce, while still leaving room for the things that matter most—like surfboards, a comfortable bed and a practical workspace.

As always, we share the wins, the setbacks and the lessons we learned along the way, because no custom van build ever goes perfectly.

In this episode, you'll see:

  • Planning a compact, functional campervan layout

  • Building the kitchen and storage cabinetry

  • Designing a convertible slide-out bed

  • Creating a desk that doubles as a dining space

  • Working around the curved walls of a Toyota HiAce

  • Installing benchtops, cupboard doors and finishing details

  • Making a custom foam mattress and fabric covers

  • Adding the final touches that bring the interior to life

If you're looking for ideas for your own Toyota HiAce campervan layout, or you're about to start building your cabinetry, this episode will give you plenty of inspiration and practical tips from a real DIY build.
