Van Conversion Guide
Base Build
Maybe make this page one with a heading, a picture and a little blurb all in a grid
Once you’ve tackled the external mods that suit your build—whether that’s windows, a fan, roof racks, or solar—it’s time to move inside and start insulating your van. Head to the next step to learn how to keep your space more comfortable year-round.
External Body Work
This stage of the build covers any changes made to the outside of the van including any big ticket items such as windows, roof fans and roof racks. These components are often far less forgiving with the positions in which you can install them. So it’s best to have them in place first to be able to plan accordingly and avoid potential clashes with other components down the line.
Use these headings to navigate to whichever components are relevant to your build before moving on to insulation.
Windows
Installing windows brings in natural light and airflow, instantly making your van feel more spacious and livable—just like in home design, more windows create the illusion of a bigger room. They also connect you to your surroundings, offering stunning views and boosting your mood. A well-placed window can seriously improve your day-to-day life on the road.
Ceiling Fan
If there’s one upgrade that transforms comfort in a van, it’s a ceiling fan. It keeps air moving, helps control heat and condensation, and makes your space far more livable—especially in warmer climates. The install might seem intimidating, but don’t stress—I’ve got a full walkthrough and FAQ to guide you through it. This is one of those additions you’ll be glad you made.
Roof Racks
Not essential, but definitely useful—roof racks open up extra storage options and make mounting things like solar panels, awnings, or surfboards much easier. A great add-on if you’re short on space or want to expand what your van can carry.
Solar Panel
If you’re planning to run a 12V system, this is the perfect time to install your solar panel. Getting it mounted now means it’s out of the way and ready for future wiring—plus, you’ll still have full access to ceiling and wall cavities to route your cables cleanly. It’s much harder to do once your van is fully lined, so get ahead while everything’s still open.
